MINI’s first 4-door model, the Countryman, has been a controversial model for the brand since it first appeared on the market – it’s rather large after all. But now, midway through its lifespan, it’s been given a new lease on life with a nip, a tuck, and a bit of a facelift.
Visually, the larger-than-life MINI features a fresher face, with a new front end design to the hexagonal grill. A new, horizontal radiator rib, finished in chrome, has been added to the design of the Cooper S Countryman and Cooper SD Countryman, with a curved “S” now in red. The JCW model features the rib in red, while all other models feature two ribs, in either gloss black or matte silver. ALL4 models feature visual underguard elements to the front and rear, as well as side-sills. Paint specs have been updated too, with the addition of Judge Green metallic, Midnight Grey metallic, and Starlight Blue metallic to the range. Additionally, there are new lightweight alloy wheels in 16- and 17-inch designs, and there are new, optional, LED fog lights, featuring 15 LED units.
Inside, the Countryman benefits from small upgrades to the appearance. These include redesigned displays and controls, with anthracite-coloured dials for the speedometer and tachometer, and chrome accents on the ventilation controls.
The engine line-up of the Countryman has been largely revised, with the addition of a new diesel engine, and extra power on certain engine variants. The Countryman does not adopt the new Mini 1.5- and 2.0-litre engines, but rather retains the previous engine configurations, barring the new Cooper SD diesel engine. All engine variants are available with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, and a 6-speed automatic as an option. All engine variant details can be seen below:
