This is all the detail we have from Mercedes-AMG at the moment, but it looks promising.

The Mercedes-AMG, yes that’s without the “Benz”, is the upcoming Porsche 911 fighter from the AMG boys in Germany.   The reason for tossing out Karl Benz’ surname, we reckon, is to signify the departure of the AMG GT from the luxury stakes, and the birth of a bona fide sports car, intent on takes the 911’s scalp.

In this, the latest teaser video from Mercedes-AMG, the brand highlights a desire to produce a machine that represents a culmination of all the technology available within the Mercedes brand.  The video also gives a few sneak peaks into the styling of the AMG GT, and more so, it shows us what the V8 engine sounds like – thought to be a new 4.0-litre twin-turbo unit that will be shared with the upcoming C63 AMG.

The video was accompanied by the teaser image above, showing the side profile of the AMG GT.

We’ve previously seen the interior of the anticipated supercar, and deduced that the AMG GT’s twin-turbo V8 will be mated to an automated gearbox – likely a new dual-clutch unit – and we can see that there will be several adaptable settings, such as adaptable suspension settings and what looks like 4 driving modes, likely to be Economy, Comfort, Sport, and Sport+.  The 4.0 V8 will be equipped with auto stop/start technology.  The centre console design mimics the V8 engine’s cylinder bank – rather clever.

Take a look at the video below and let us know if you think the new Mercedes-AMG GT will be able to beat the 911 at being the sports car of all sports cars.
