A few weeks back, Audi teased a new design language vaguely, with the new head of design, Marc Lichte, eager to stamp his authority on the maker’s product line up. We’ve since seen a new teaser video, which you can watch below, and heard vague confirmation that the A9 Concept, now dubbed the Prologue Concept, will go to production. Now, we have design sketches.
The Prologue concept was previously thought to have been a 4-door coupe variant of the A8, a Sportback model to go along with the A5 and A7 Sportback models. However, these design sketches illustrate a 2-door coupe, giving us hopes that Audi may be the first brand to take on Mercedes-Benz’ S Class Coupe head on.
Among the visual highlights we expect to see on the show car, Audi’s signature single-frame grill looks set to stay – albeit wider than we’ve previously seen. We can also see heavily revised headlamp designs with a far more aggressive touch to them, and the front end styling looks to take cues from the RS7 Sportback in its aggressive nature.
We’re hoping the actual thing will look half as aggressive as the sketches – although if the Sport Quattro Concept is anything to by it will be highly sedated by comparison – but a new design language for Audi is still an exciting prospect; a potential S63 AMG Coupe rival even more so.
