It seems everyone wants a piece of the pie when it comes to the SUV. The Cayenne is after all the vehicle that saved Porsche from bankruptcy. Now, Jaguar wants in on the action, and the C-X17 Concept previews their 1st ever SUV due to be released in the coming years.
The C-X17 is the Sports Crossover concept from Jag, which evidently takes styling from the F-Type coupe and roadster. Think of it as the F-Type shooting brake you’ve always dreamed of, but on stilts.
The C-X17 features a lightweight aluminium monocoque architecture, the same basis for a 2015-due sedan to compete with the BMW 3-Series. The new architecture will be paired with a new engine-family designed for efficient performance, with low emissions and high speeds, over 300km/h – although the SUV variants will be much slower than that for safety reasons. One engined confirmed for future use is the V6 found in the F-Type.
Among the technologies previewed by the C-X17, a new interior Surface Console design has been shown – a multi-screen infotainment system that links passengers to one another and to the world via social media.
The C-X17’s compact dimensions at 4718mm long and 1649mm tall mean that the crossover is likely to possess car-like driving attributes. With the imminent arrival of the Porsche Macan in the course of 2014, a Jaguar rival will be welcome, especially one as good looking as the C-X17.
