The BMW X7 is to be built alongside the X4 (Pictured above) at the Spartanburg plant.

BMW have confirmed the addition of a new, 7 seater SUV to their X range, confirmed for 2016.  The new X7 is to be built at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.

The newest, largest BMW X model is set to take on the Mercedes-Benz GL and Range Rover in the 7-seater SUV class, and is likely to use the current BMW architecture found in the new X5, albeit with an extended wheelbase.  BMW have yet to confirm further details on the X7, but we’re certain there will not be an X7M, but there will be a range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines available.  Rumoured to top the range is a quad-turbo version of BMW’s already tri-turbo 50d.  With the new engines, and larger footprint, we can also expect the X7 to be more luxurious than the X5 and X6.

The X7 will add to BMW’s already extensive SUV line-up, which currently includes the X1, X3, X4, X5, and X6, with a possible X2 rumoured for a few years time.
